Hangar Roof “Raised” (or 7 Razed!)
On Saturday, September 17,a s trong gust of wind removed a portion of roof material and supporting wood from our SAMAIR Peru hanger. We are grateful that the flying roofing panels and wood blew down the runway and did not hit or damage any planes. There were also people around the hangar at the time who “evacuated” one of the planes from under the roof. Some of the corrugated metal panels on the other side of the roof were also pulled loose.
We initially thought that we could put new metal on the existing structure, but we since discovered that several of the support posts that were put in the ground in 1983 have rotten away. We are now thinking that we should literally start the repairs to the hangar 'from the ground up”. Additionally, the main portion of the hangar was built back in the early 1970s when SAMAIR Peru was utilizing Stinsons and Maules, types of small aircraft with shorter wingspans than Cessna 206's. This creates an opportunity for damage to the newer planes we have, as the first plane put under the hangar roof at night has to be pushed in past the support posts at an angle.
Please pray for us as we look at options for repairing/ remodeling our hangar. Rainy season is already upon us (- it has begun six weeks early ); we need to protect the planes. We are still in the evaluation phase, so I do not have figures for the cost of repairs at this time, but we will keep you posted. We covert your prayers for our team as we strive to be good stewards of Kingdom resources.
